Which social science class should I take first in college?

I'm a rising junior planning to major in social sciences but unsure about which class to start with. Any advice on the easiest social science course to kickstart my journey in college?

It's great that you're already thinking about your college courses. Your choice for an introductory course in the social sciences largely depends on your interests. Since the social sciences cover a broad range of subjects, such as sociology, psychology, political science, economics, anthropology, and more, it would be helpful to start with a subject you find intriguing.

However, if you wish to opt for a class that's often regarded as a bit more manageable for beginners, consider looking at introductory sociology or psychology courses. Both allow you to understand fundamental concepts and theories, and they generally have content that many students find engaging and relatable, making them potentially easier to grasp.

Introductory Sociology usually covers a wide range of topics including culture, family, socialization, deviance, social class, race, and gender. It equips students with a broad understanding of the social structures and processes that shape our day-to-day life.

Introductory Psychology, on the other hand, is a survey course introducing you to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Topics may include neuroscience, sensation & perception, learning, cognition, motivation, personality, psychological disorders, and social behavior.

Remember, "easiness" is subjective and what may be easy or interesting to one person might not be to another. So it's often a good idea to go through the course syllabus or speak to the professor or fellow students beforehand, to ensure that the material and coursework align with your expectations and learning style.
