Looking for a Pet in College

Hey there, anyone have any suggestions on the easiest pets to manage while in college? It would definitely help with the stress, but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew with my schedule.

While having a pet in college can indeed be a source of comfort and stress relief, you're right in considering the responsibilities that come along with it. Here are a few suggestions of low-maintenance pets that could work for a student's schedule:

1. Fish: Fish are pretty low-maintenance and require less investment of time than other pets. You'll need to clean their tank regularly, but apart from feeding them daily, they don't need much interaction.

2. Small rodents: Hamsters, mice, and gerbils are small, active, and easy to care for. They tend to be more active during the night which can sync well with a student's lifestyle. They do require a safe enclosure, and periodic cleaning of their habitat.

3. Hermit crabs: These are low-care, interesting creatures. Provide them with a suitable tank, fresh food, water, and they're good to go.

4. Reptiles: Some species of lizards, like Geckos, or a ball python snake, can be low-maintenance once their habitat is properly set up.

5. Plants: Ok, it's not really a pet, but caring for plants can also provide a sense of companionship and they're proven to reduce stress too!

Please remember though, even 'low-maintenance' pets require time, care, and a consistent routine. Also important is to check your college dorm rules as many have restrictions on keeping pets. And always weigh the overall logistics (like travel during holidays) before you decide to bring a pet into your life.
