Ranking of College Majors from Hardest to Easiest?

Hey guys, I'm starting to think about my potential major. I'm considering everything at this point, but I want to be realistic about the level of difficulty too. Does anyone have a list or idea on how college majors rank from hardest to easiest? I know 'difficulty' can be subjective, based on personal strengths and interests, but any general ideas would be appreciated!

Hello there, thanks for your interesting question! You're right in acknowledging that difficulty can be quite subjective and largely hinges upon individual strengths, interests, and the effort a student is willing to put into their studies. Still, based on workload, complexity, and graduation requirements, certain majors are often perceived to be more challenging than others.

In general, majors in the physical sciences, engineering, and mathematics often receive the 'hardest' tag because these disciplines involve advanced mathematics, complex theories, laboratory or technical skills, and in some cases, a hefty coursework load. Majors like Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, and Mathematics are commonly mentioned as demanding due to these factors.

Majors in healthcare-related fields, such as Nursing or Pre-Med, also have a reputation for being rigorous. With these programs, it's not just about studying and passing exams. There's also a substantial practical element involving patient interaction which requires commitment and competency.

On the other side of the spectrum, it's common to see majors in Education, Languages, or the Social Sciences viewed as 'less rigorous.' However, this doesn't mean that these are 'easy,' and each of these disciplines has its unique challenges. For example, mastering a new language can be quite demanding, and essays for Social Science courses often necessitate a high degree of critical thinking and excellent writing skills.

Always keep in mind that what's most crucial is finding a major that aligns with your passion and career goals. Instead of focusing just on the perceived difficulty, consider where your interests lie, and what skills you wish to develop. Remember, you will have the most success in an area you are passionate about and willing to work hard in!
