Choosing the Right College Major: What's Considered the Easiest Major at a 4 Year College?

Hey everyone! I'm a junior in high school and trying to start thinking about what I might want to major in. I know some people say to follow your passion, but I'm really not sure what that is yet. Can anyone suggest what the easiest major to pursue might be at a 4 year college? Just so I can consider all my options. Thanks!

Straight away, I would caution against choosing a major solely based on perceived difficulty. A four-year degree is substantial investment in both time and money, so you’ll want to make sure it’s in a field that you're genuinely interested in and that can open doors to careers you might enjoy.

That being said, the difficulty of a major can often be subjective. What might be easy for one individual could be challenging for another, depending largely on personal strengths and interests. For example, someone with a knack for logic and reasoning might find philosophy easy. Someone who enjoys memorizing facts or who has a keen interest in the past might find a history major less demanding.

However, some majors students often label as 'easy' at a general level include: Communications, English, Sociology, and Psychology. These majors often involve more essay writing and less laboratory or mathematical work, which some students find easier.

Yet, it's essential to consider potential career paths when deciding on a major. If you're unsure of your passions, think about your skills or subjects you've enjoyed in high school. You don't have to have it all figured out now, but taking some time to explore what subjects align with your interests and skills might be useful. A career counselor at your school may also be able to provide some guidance.

Remember, college is an opportunity for intellectual growth and discovery. While some majors may seem 'easier', the most rewarding academic experience often comes from pursuing a major that aligns with your interests and future career goals.
