Colleges with Lenient Grading Policies?

Hola! I'm a junior in high school looking at colleges, trying to see where I stand a good chance for a high GPA. I'm not looking for an easy ride, but I'm curious to know; does anyone know about any colleges that are considered 'easier graders'? Just to ease my mind a bit. Much appreciated!

Sure thing! It's great that you're thinking about how you can succeed academically in college. One thing to understand is that colleges differ in their grading policies and that some are indeed considered to have more lenient grading scales. A few that come to mind are:

1. Brown University: Students at Brown have the option to take any course satisfactory/no credit (pass/fail) in addition to the standard grading scale, and these grades don't impact a student's GPA. This can be a great way to explore interests outside of your primary focus without worrying about it negatively impacting your GPA.

2. Wesleyan University: Like Brown, Wesleyan students can take courses Credit/Unsatisfactory. Plus, the grade to earn Credit is equivalent to a C- or better which is relatively lenient.

3. University of California, Santa Cruz: UCSC has a unique system where they initially only give pass/fail grades for their classes during the first quarter. After that, letter grades are optional for each class, so you can choose to take a class pass/fail to protect your GPA.

4. Evergreen State College: This Washington State college doesn't use traditional grading. Instead, it provides narrative evaluations of students’ work by professors.

Keep in mind that, no matter where you go to college, you'll need to work hard to succeed acadically. And remember that grades aren't the only important part of the college experience - you should also consider factors like the campus environment, class sizes, availability of majors/minors, and extracurricular activities. Good luck!
