Laid-back Majors: What's the Easiest Major to Pursue in University?

Hi everyone! I've been doing some planning for post-high school and university is definitely on the table. I know I want an experience that leaves room for personal growth and exploration, which is why I wonder: What are some of the easiest majors I can consider?

First off, it's important to remember that the word "easiest" is subjective and can depend on your personal strengths, interests, and academic background. What's easy for one person might be quite challenging for another.

However, if your question is about need for less strenuous coursework, majors in some of the liberal arts disciplines are often considered less demanding than majors in the hard sciences or engineering due to fewer rigorous technical requirements. Some examples of such majors can be English, Sociology, Philosophy, Communication Studies, and certain branches of Psychology.

However, these majors can still offer rigorous intellectual challenge in their own right—it's more that the 'pulse' of work can be a bit different. Debates, essays, reading, and presentations tend to feature more heavily compared to laboratories, mathematical problem-solving, or design projects.

If the goal is to have spare time for personal growth and exploration as you’ve mentioned, it might be a good idea to evaluate majors not just based on perceived ease, but also flexibility. Some universities offer interdisciplinary studies or "create your own major" programs, which allow you to custom-design a course of study suited to your interests and goals.

Just remember, choosing a major should balance what you enjoy, what you are good at, and what can enhance your desired career or life path after graduation. So while considering 'easier' majors might free up time for exploration, also make sure you're setting yourself up for success after graduation. You don't want end up in a field of study you find unappealing or disinteresting just because it was an 'easy' option.
