Advice Needed: Easiest classes at Binghamton University?

Hey guys! I'm a rising junior in high school and Binghamton University is at the top of my university wishlist. Adjusting to college life and handling a tougher academic workload is something I'm a bit anxious about. To make the transition smoother, I was planning on taking a lighter class in my first semester. Can anyone suggest some of the less challenging, or 'easier,' classes at Binghamton University? Please note, that I'm not looking for an easy pass, but rather want a manageable workload as I get used to college life. Thanks in advance!

While I completely understand why you would want easy classes in your first semester to smoothen the transition to college, remember that it might also be valuable to push yourself in your primary field of interest to figure out early if it's the right fit for you. That said, easing into the courseload can still be beneficial.

From what I've gathered, these are some classes at Binghamton University that students often take for a manageable workload:

1. SOC 100: Intro Sociology - A general introduction to Sociology with a manageable workload.

2. PSYC 111: General Psychology - An introductory course that covers the basics, students often find it interesting and not particularly demanding.

3. PHIL 101: Intro to Philosophy - In this class, you will examine your own life, as well as many of the things, people, and institutions in it. Examination makes us question ourselves and our deeply held beliefs.

4. MUS 113: Jazz in American Music - No musical background required. This course is often lauded for its interesting content and manageable workload.

5. GEOG 170: Environmental Geology - This class is more science-oriented but is considered less challenging compared to the other science courses.

Remember, the time and relative ease you might gain from these classes should ideally be used to explore the campus, join clubs/societies, and participate in activities that help bolster your overall college experience.

That being said, something "easy" for one person may not be "easy" for another. A lot will depend on your academic strengths and interests. So while this list gives you a starting point, try to learn as much as you can about these or any other classes you're thinking of taking. Binghamton University’s syllabi from past semesters could give you a better idea of what each course will entail. Also, I recommend asking current students or recent graduates about these courses, as they will provide firsthand information. And above all, remember to balance your coursework with extracurriculars and personal time. Best of luck!
