Seeking Easy Major at University of Maryland

Hey guys! So, I've been considering applying to the University of Maryland, and I'm wondering... are there any specific majors that have a reputation of being relatively easy to get into? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! One thing to keep in mind when looking at majors is that "ease" is very relative and significantly varies depending on personal interest and strengths. That being said, certain programs at University of Maryland have less competitive admissions than others. Another factor to consider is the department size: larger departments often have more spots available for students.

Remember though, it's crucial to major in something that aligns with your career goals, interests, and skills. Taking the "easy route" for the sake of it might backfire in the long run. For example, if you have a strong interest in business but opt for a "less competitive" major because it was easier to get into, you might end up feeling unfulfilled or unchallenged.

Now, to your question. At UMD, some of the majors that are often considered less competitive include ones within the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences such as Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology. Similarly, majors in the College of Arts and Humanities like English, History, and Philosophy typically have more flexible admission standards.

However, remember that these majors are not inherently "easier." They just tend to be less competitive in terms of admission because they attract fewer students than high-demand fields like Computer Science or Biology.

Before making a decision, review the course content and the skills the major will help you develop. Try to envision whether you see yourself enjoying the process of studying and later working in the field. Good luck with your application!
