What's considered a good PSAT score?

Does anyone know what's considered a 'good' PSAT score? Like, I know it's not the SAT, but what scores should we be aiming for to know we're on the right track?

Great question! A 'good' PSAT score can vary depending on what your goals are. If you're aiming for National Merit Scholarship recognition, generally, you'll want to score in the top 1% of test-takers in your state. The cutoff for this varies by state and by year, but a score of 1400 or above is often competitive.

For general college prep, scoring around or above the 75th percentile (which is usually around 1150 or so) shows that you're on a good track for the SAT. Remember, the PSAT is a precursor to the SAT, so it gives you an idea of areas you might want to focus on for improvement.

Also, check out the College Board's PSAT/NMSQT Understanding Scores page for a more in-depth look at percentile rankings. It's important to use this as an opportunity to identify your strengths and weaknesses, so you can tailor your study plan for the actual SAT. Good luck with your preparations!
