Universities That Make it Easier to Achieve a High GPA?

In an attempt to be strategic about the colleges I apply to, I'm considering not just where I can get in, but also where I might excel. Are there specific universities known for grading policies that make it somewhat easier to achieve high GPAs?

Sure! There are indeed some colleges known for a phenomenon colloquially referred to as "grade inflation". This occurs at universities that have a higher average GPA due to more lenient grading policies. One example occasionally mentioned is Brown University, which has a grading system that does not include plus/minus grades. In addition, Brown has a flexible curriculum, where you can take classes Pass/Fail, which could potentially help you maintain a high GPA.

Stanford University is known for having lenient grading as well. The median grade at Stanford has been an 'A' since 2005. While there's definitely rigor involved in their coursework, the higher median grade is something to keep in mind.

A couple other Ivy League schools, such as Yale and Harvard, also tend to have higher average GPAs compared to other top institutions, which may be indicative of more lenient grading policies.

Keep in mind that even if these schools might have higher average GPAs, they still offer challenging coursework, and maintaining a high GPA will still require dedication and effort. Furthermore, remember that grades are just one factor in your college experience, so consider other factors like the school's culture, opportunities for internships or research, and your personal fit with the school as well.
