Any advice on lighter coursework at University of Iowa?

Hey y'all! I'm starting University of Iowa in the fall and I was curious if any alumni or current students could share info on classes that are seen as 'less challenging'. I plan to balance my workload and ensure I have a solid first year, so any tips would be great!

While it's important to balance heavy and lighter coursework, it's also critical that your class schedule aligns with your academic goals. It's fair to seek a balance, but make sure you're not missing out on solid learning opportunities. That being said, every university has a few "gem" classes that students find enjoyable and less challenging. The essential factor here is to choose classes that you have a genuine interest in, as they will naturally feel less stressful.

At the University of Iowa, Iowa Hornets Network's LEAP (Learning and Engagement through Active Participation) seminar - a first-year seminar designed to help you transition into college - is highly recommended. Besides promoting academic skills, it also offers students an opportunity to explore Iowa City with their peers and instructor.

Other courses known for their engaging trivia and approachable content include "Introduction to Psychology" and "Elementary Astronomy". Like most colleges, introductory classes in various subjects at Iowa are designed to acquaint students with topics at a manageable pace.

Finally, strongly consider taking a class outside your main area of interest. A fun class in Music or Theatre could provide a nice counterbalance to Math or Science classwork.

Remember, what might be 'light' for one student might not be for others, so be sure your course choice matches your academic strengths and interests. Additionally, your fellow peers and academic advisor can be valuable resources for personalized course recommendations.
