Ramapo College Online Courses: Need Suggestions for Manageable Classes

Hi everyone. I'm a student at Ramapo College, and I'm thinking of tackling some of my GE requirements through online classes. Can anyone point me towards some of the easier ones to take? I still want to learn something, but I don’t want to be overwhelmed with work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! While the difficulty of an online course can often come down to an individual's personal strengths and interests, there are certain classes often considered more manageable in an online setting.

One common GE requirement many students find to be less taxing online is communications. Classes like Interpersonal Communication or Public Speaking usually include watching lectures, participating in online discussions, and giving presentations, which you can often prepare for in advance. Plus, these courses can be more comfortable as they allow you to really think through and revise your responses in discussions.

Some humanities subjects, like introductory philosophy or sociology, might also be another good choice for online course work. These classes often involve reading and writing assignments, but they can also spark very interesting discussions and give you a fresh perspective.

Additional subjects that could be easier to handle online might be entry-level information technology courses or digital media classes — though this really depends on your comfort with computers and technology.

Remember when selecting your online coursework to balance what you might find less taxing with what you also find interesting, as having a personal interest in the subject can make a major difference in your motivation and the class workload. Also, try to converse with other students who have taken the course and check out professor reviews to gauge difficulty level.

Finally, maintain communication with your professors and take advantage of any support resources provided by the college as these can significantly assist in managing your workload and understanding the course material.

Good luck with your course selection!
