Which classes tend to be less demanding at Xavier University?

Hi everyone, I'm planning to apply to Xavier University and am interested in knowing more about the classes there. Are there any specific courses that you found less taxing than others? Would appreciate any advice you could give!

While it's important to remember that the level of difficulty in a class can be very subjective, and much depends on the specific professors, syllabi, and your own interests/strengths, some students may find certain course areas traditionally a bit more relaxed. At most universities, including Xavier, classes in fields like leisure studies, introductory arts, or physical education can be less demanding than high-level or highly technical classes.

For instance, students often find some of the core distribution requirement classes, such as Music Appreciation, Introduction to Theatre, or Personal Fitness, to be less rigorous than major-specific or advanced courses. This doesn't mean these classes won't require effort or attention, but they might not involve the same level of intensive studying and workload as upper-level science courses or seminars for instance.

Likewise, First Year Seminar classes, which are designed to help ease students into college-level expectations, are usually an enjoyable lower-pressure experience. Typically, these classes focus more on developing fundamental skills like critical thinking, discussion, and writing, and less on heavy content memorization.

Remember that an "easy" or "less demanding" class is not always the best route for your education or your future goals. They have their place in a balanced schedule, but pushing oneself academically is a critical part of the college experience.

As a prospective student, consider reaching out to current Xavier students or alums to get a first-hand perspective. Platforms like CollegeVine may also offer student reviews on classes and professors at Xavier. Break a leg!
