Navigating University of Houston's Course Catalog

Anyone from University of Houston? I'll be applying soon and I'm trying to get an idea of what the easier classes are. Any suggestions would be super helpful!

Well, each person's idea of what constitutes an "easy" class can vary quite a bit based on individual strengths and interests. If you're strong in a particular academic area, a class in that area might be "easy" for you, while someone else might find it quite challenging. Furthermore, the difficulty of a class can also depend significantly on the professor teaching it.

However, there are several steps you can take to gauge the difficulty of courses:

1. Read the course description: Start by looking at the course descriptions in the catalog. These often provide insight into the complexity or amount of work expected in the class.

2. Check out reviews: Platforms like RateMyProfessors can be useful in these situations. Here, students often share their experiences with the class workload, difficulty level, and the professor's teaching style.

3. Convos with current students: If you can, try reaching out to current students at the University of Houston. They are likely to provide the most accurate information about the workload and difficulty of specific courses.

4. Check prerequisites: Typically, courses with heavy prerequisites tend to be more challenging since they assume a solid basic understanding.

As a general tip, it's always a good idea to strive for a balanced schedule. You may want to consider mixing classes that you anticipate will be difficult with ones that you expect to be on the easier side. Beware of judging a class's difficulty only by its level. A course may be an intro-level course but may still carry a heavy workload.

Another note: you'll want to challenge yourself to some extent. College offers a tremendous opportunity to push your boundaries, learn new things, and develop new skills. Don't limit yourself only to what seems easy!

Hope this helps, and best of luck with your applications!
