Insights into relatively easy courses at Columbia University?

Hello, everyone! I'm planning to attend Columbia University and I'm curious to know, are there any easy courses (or perhaps professors that are easier to learn from)? I just want to ensure I'm strategically picking my classes!

While it's generally ideal to choose classes based on interest and alignment with your academic or career goals, it's understandable to want to plan ahead and keep workload or difficulty level in mind. At a university known for rigorous academics like Columbia, you might be looking for classes that are seen to be more manageable.

One popular choice among students is "Earth, Moon and Planets" (ASTR UN1403). It's a common option because it's regarded as interesting and not overly difficult. This course provides a comprehensive overview of astronomy without requiring too much prior knowledge.

"Masterpieces of Western Art" (HUMA UN1121) is another course that frequently appears on lists of less demanding classes. You'll learn about various works of art, their historical context, and some basics of visual analysis. You don't need to be an art expert to do well in this class!

Remember, though, 'easiness' is subjective and can depend on your strengths and interests. What is 'easy' for one person may not be for another, and vice versa.

And lastly, it's equally important, if not more so, to enjoy what you are learning. Interest in a course can often alleviate perceptions of difficulty and make the academic journey more fulfilling. Even if a course is reputed to be challenging, if it aligns with your interests or career aspirations, the hard work can be very rewarding.

I would definitely recommend discussing courses and professors with your academic advisor when you get to campus to make sure the classes align with your academic goals and degree requirements. And don't forget to check out reviews from other students on Columbia's course evaluation website for additional perspectives on individual courses and professors.
