Easiest college majors: Any truth to the lists?

Hi folks, so I found some lists online about the 'easiest college majors', and I'm just wondering if there's any validity to them? Are these rankings reliable or are they biased? What have been your experiences, if any, with the majors on these lists?

It's important to remember that difficulty is subjective and depends on an individual's strengths, weaknesses, and personal interests. One person might find STEM subjects naturally challenging, whereas another person may struggle more with subjects involving heavy reading and critical thinking, such as the humanities. 'Easy' and 'difficult' differ for everyone, so an online list can’t truly determine what will be easy or hard for you.

Those lists you found generally rank majors based on factors like GPA and workload. While these statistics can provide some insight, they don't tell the whole story. For example, a major with a high average GPA might be populated with students who are deeply passionate or naturally talented in that field, rather than the subject being inherently “easy.”

Similarly, majors that are considered more "difficult" often come with more rigorous coursework and may require more time spent studying outside of class, but this doesn't necessarily mean that the subject is beyond comprehension. With proper dedication, most students can succeed in any major they choose.

When deciding on a major, my advice would be to actually consider what subjects you genuinely enjoy and in which areas you want to challenge yourself and grow. If you are passionate about what you're studying, it won't feel like a burden and you'll be more likely to excel, despite what any online list might suggest. The best major for you should align with your personal, professional, and academic goals. Don’t pick your major solely based on its perceived difficulty.

Also remember the concept of the "four-year sacrifice". Yes, you’re potentially choosing something that might require more time, effort, or be more challenging, but you're doing it with the goal of better long-term career prospects or personal fulfillment. The hardest major may lead to the most rewarding career for you. So, while these lists may provide some quick insights, they don’t provide a holistic picture and may not be entirely accurate guides for decision-making.
