Infantry in Different Military Branches?

Hello! I know that the Army has infantry, but do other branches of the military have their own forms of infantry? I'm really drawn to the idea of being an infantry soldier, but I'm not sure if the Army is the right fit for me. Thanks!

Yes, other branches of the U.S military do indeed have their own versions of infantry. The Marine Corps, for example, is well-known for its infantry which carries out many of the same duties as Army infantry but with a particular focus on amphibious operations. Marines are often deployed from ships and carry out duties that may include seizure or defense of naval assets, beachheads, and other maritime operations.

Similarly, the Navy has its own special operations force known as the Navy SEALs, who are often compared to infantry, even though SEALs training and missions tend to focus more on special operations, which includes unconventional warfare, direct action, counter-terrorism, and reconnaissance, often in maritime environments or from maritime approaches.

The Air Force has the Special Tactics Squadrons, which include Combat Controllers and Pararescuemen, among others. While not traditionally infantry, these airmen are trained to fight alongside infantry personnel and coordinate air support, evacuate wounded personnel, and more.

Finally, the newly-formed Space Force is not involved in conventional ground combat, so it does not have an equivalent infantry.

Keep in mind that each branch has a different focus and culture, so it's essential to think about where you believe you would fit best and where you could best contribute your skills and interests. Conducting more research and talking to recruiters could help you make an informed decision. Best of luck with your decision!
