Military Tanks - All Branches?

Sup peeps, I've always been fascinated by tanks since I was a little kid and now that I’m thinking about post-HS options, the military has crossed my mind. Do all branches have tanks, or is it just an Army thing? Honestly, the idea of learning to operate one is sort of dope.

Hello there! It's fantastic to hear how you're considering different post-high school options. Military tanks are indeed fascinating, and learning to operate one can indeed be a unique experience!

Typically, tanks are associated with the United States Army. They make use of a variety of armored vehicles, including the M1 Abrams, which is a main battle tank. Training in the Army to operate tanks can take place at locations like Fort Benning in Georgia, where you might attend the U.S. Army Armor School.

However, it's not just the Army that utilizes armored vehicles. The Marines also use tanks, although they've been downsizing their tank battalions lately as part of their restructuring towards a more naval expeditionary focus.

Contrarily, the Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard primaries focus on aircraft, sea vessels, and coastal defense, respectively, and don't traditionally operate tanks. The Space Force, the newest branch of the military, is dedicated to protecting U.S. and allied interests in space and does not operate tanks either.

I must add though, that operating military vehicles is just one aspect of service. There is plenty more to consider such as the commitment, potential deployments, and the physical and mental challenges of military life. It's also worth considering talking to a recruiter and doing plenty of research to find the best fit for you. If your primary interest lies in tanks, looking into the Army could be a good start!
