Challenging courses at Carleton University?

Hi all, I've recently been accepted at Carleton University and I was wondering what the most challenging courses there are. Any suggestions or personal experiences? Thanks in advance for your help!

Congratulations on your acceptance to Carleton University! As for your question, the answer really depends on your aimed major and your personal strengths and weaknesses.

However, I can mention some notoriously challenging courses based on what I've heard from students. If you're going the humanities route, PHIL 2001: Introduction to Logic has a reputation of being intense. It really builds your analytical skills, but the course layout and concepts can be a bit difficult to grasp at first.

In the sciences, the PHYS 1004: Introduction to Electromagnetism, Optics and Modern Physics is considered to be difficult by many, due to the abstract concepts and heavy application of calculus.

COMP 3007: Programming Paradigms, in the engineering field, is also reported to be quite demanding, with a focus on designing and programming embedded microcomputer systems.

Lastly, any languages course can also be particularly challenging if you haven't had much exposure to the language before. One example is LANG 2020 - Intermediate Language Study.

Remember that these courses being 'tough' isn't necessarily a bad thing. Having challenging courses on your transcript can show your academic rigor and ability to tackle difficult content to graduate schools or future employers. To succeed, make sure to use all resources at your disposal - office hours, tutoring centers, study groups, and so on. Best of luck with your studies at Carleton University!
