Non-traditional military branches?

I've been thinking about life after high school and I'm not sure college is for me. I've been researching military options and came across 'non-traditional' branches, what exactly are these and how do they compare to the regular branches?

The term 'non-traditional' in reference to military branches typically points to branches like the Coast Guard and the Space Force, which are smaller and have missions that are different from the more 'traditional' military branches, such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps.

The U.S. Coast Guard is unique because it serves as both a military service and a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security. The Coast Guard's missions include maritime safety, security, and stewardship, which is accomplished by patrolling the coastal waters and performing search and rescue duties, amongst other tasks.

The Space Force is the newest branch, established just in 2019. Its mission is to organize, train, and equip personnel to protect U.S. and allied interests in space. This includes monitoring ballistic missile launches, tracking space debris, and maintaining satellites that enable communication between other military branches. It's a burgeoning technological branch, so it could be an interesting choice if you're interested in space and technology.

Remember, no two branches of the military are exactly alike, and they each have their own missions, needs, and recruitment strategies. Therefore, the best choice will depend heavily on your personal interests and goals. It's important to sit down, assess your interests, and do a lot of research to clearly understand what each branch offers to make the most informed decision.
