Global University Rankings

Being an international student, it's a little bit tough to figure out the university landscape sometimes. Can anyone tell me what is generally considered the hardest university in the world to get into, based on acceptance rates and admission standards?

Harvard University currently holds the title for being the hardest university to get into, globally. This is primarily due to its extremely low acceptance rate and very high academic standards. For the class of 2028, the acceptance rate was a tiny 3.6%.

Applicants to Harvard typically have extraordinary academic records, ranking in the top percentile of their graduating class. The middle 50% SAT scores for admitted students generally ranges from 1500 to 1580, and the middle 50% ACT score range for admitted students at Harvard is typically between 34 and 35.

Keep in mind, however, that Harvard doesn't just look at scores. They consider other factors as well, such as involvement in extracurricular activities, demonstrated leadership, and the essays applicants submit. It's these components of the application that can truly set candidates apart.

Lastly, it's important to note that the hardest school to get into will vary among different fields of study. For instance, Juilliard is extremely difficult to gain admission to for performing arts, and MIT is known for its selective engineering programs. Regardless, when it comes to overall acceptance rates and standards, Harvard tops the list.
