Looking for a rundown of military branches

Hey everyone, I'm a junior and I've started to consider joining the military after high school but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the information out there. Could anyone give me a simple list or breakdown of the branches of the military and maybe a line or two about what each one does?

Sure, I can certainly assist with this request. In the United States, we have six branches of the military, each with a distinct mission:

1. Army - This is the largest and oldest service in the US military. Its main purpose is to protect the security of the United States and its resources.

2. Navy - Operates at sea, protecting waterways foreign and domestic. The mission of the Navy is to maintain, train, and equip combat-ready naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression, and maintaining freedom of the seas.

3. Air Force - This branch oversees air, space, and cyberspace. It's about supporting ground troops with air cover, carrying out bombing missions, air transport, and aerial reconnaissance.

4. Marine Corps - Functionally a component of the Department of the Navy, they are a highly mobile, rapid response force. Marines are often the first boots on the ground in combat situations.

5. Coast Guard - Works in the maritime environment, with duties that include maritime law enforcement, marine environmental protection, search-and-rescue, and maintaining navigation aids. It's especially busy during times of peace.

6. Space Force - The newest branch as of 2019, it organizes, trains, and equips personnel to protect U.S. and allied interests in space. Responsibilities include monitoring ballistic missile launches, tracking space debris, and maintaining satellites that allow for communication between other military branches.

Keep in mind that choosing to join a branch of the military is a significant decision with many factors to consider. Each of these branches has certain requirements and a variety of roles you could potentially fill, so getting more specific information about what you want out of serving could help narrow down your options.
