What does 'MOS' mean in reference to a military branch?

I've been coming across the term 'MOS' a lot when looking into different military branches. Can anyone explain what this means and its significance?

"MOS" stands for "Military Occupational Specialty." It's essentially a code used in the U.S. military to identify a specific job within a branch. Each branch of the military has its own set of MOS codes and these codes align with a particular role or duty.

A service member's MOS can range from something hands-on like being an Infantryman in the Army (code 11B), to a medical role such as an Army Behavioral Health Specialist (code 68X), or even into technical duties like a Navy Information Systems Technician (code IT).

The classification system helps to organize personnel and resources, ensuring that individuals have the necessary training for their designated tasks.
