Are there any military training shows featuring different branches?

Hey guys, I'm strongly considering joining the military after graduation, but I'd like to get a better understanding of what I might sign up for. Are there any realistic TV shows or documentaries where they depict training and basically what it's like going up against other branches? Or even any recommended films or books? Thanks!

Sure, getting a sense of what life is like in the military in advance can certainly yield some valuable insights. There are several TV shows, documentaries, and films that can give you a glimpse into military life, including training and inter-branch dynamics.

1. "Surviving the Cut" is a documentary series on Discovery Channel that takes a detailed look at the intense training programs of several different military branches. You can see firsthand what it takes to make the cut in various elite military groups like the Army Rangers, Navy EOD, and Air Force Pararescue.

2. "Inside Combat Rescue" is another docuseries. This one focuses on the Air Force's elite Pararescue Jumpers, offering a raw depiction of the pressures and dangers these servicemen face.

3. "Making a Sailor" is a series that offers an inside view at Navy Boot Camp, showing the grueling process of turning civilians into sailors. There's also a similar series called "Making a Marine."

4. "Carrier" is a PBS documentary series set on a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, giving a comprehensive glimpse of life at sea for young men and women.

As for films, "Full Metal Jacket" is a classic film that tells the story of a platoon of U.S. Marines during training and the Vietnam War. "Black Hawk Down” is another film depicting the U.S. military - it portrays the real-life events of a mission gone wrong in Somalia, focusing on Army Rangers and Delta Force teams.

When it comes to books, works like "Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life...And Maybe the World" by Admiral William H. McRaven, a former Navy SEAL, offer great insights into military service and its broader life lessons. "Band of Brothers" by Stephen E. Ambrose is another engaging read, detailing the story of a group from the Army's 101st Airborne division during World War II.

Remember, while these resources can give you a broad idea, they won't cover everything or reflect everybody's experience in the military. It might also be useful to seek out firsthand perspectives from people who have served in different branches - consider reaching out to local veteran's organizations or using social media to connect with current military members or veterans.
