Toughest chemistry course in college?

Hey all, I have a strong interest in chemistry and I'm considering it as my major in college. I've heard there's this 'hardest chemistry class' everyone speaks about: students fear it, idols are made of those who ace it. Could any of you let me in on what that class is?

Quite a few chemistry students might name Physical Chemistry as one of the most challenging courses within the major. Often split into two parts - Physical Chemistry I and II - this class delves deeply into quantum mechanics and thermodynamics.

Physical Chemistry I tends to focus on quantum mechanics where you'll learn about quantum theory, atomic structures, molecular orbital theory, molecular spectroscopy, and more. It demands a strong grasp of calculus and differential equations, and the material can be pretty abstract, which is what makes this course tricky for a lot of students.

Physical Chemistry II mainly covers thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, which involves studying systems at equilibrium, phase transitions, and statistical ensembles, among other topics. The mathematical rigor continues in this part of the course, and students are expected to have a strong understanding of calculus-based physics.

However, keep in mind that what is considered "the hardest" can vary greatly from person to person, as it's generally dependent on individual strengths, weaknesses, and interests.
