What are considered the hardest majors to pursue in college?

As a high school junior starting to plan ahead, I'm trying to get an idea of what I'm in for in terms of rigorous academics. Can anyone share what they know about the most challenging majors available at the college level? I'm especially interested in hearing about experiences or insights related to STEM fields but any information is appreciated.

The "most challenging" major can vary greatly depending on a student's strengths and interests, so it's essential to keep this in mind. However, several majors are broadly recognized for their academic rigor, particularly in the STEM fields.

Physics: Studying the nature of the universe certainly commands a strong foundation in mathematics and problem solving, making this one of the most challenging majors.

Engineering: Regardless of the specialty (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, etc.), engineering programs are known for their rigorous curriculum - usually heavy in maths and applied sciences.

Chemical Engineering: Not only does this major require understanding principles from Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, but it also involves getting to grips with complex Chemical processes and systems.

Computer Science: Though a highly in-demand field, Computer Science demands a strong understanding of mathematical concepts and programming languages which can be challenging.

Biochemistry/Biophysics: Both of these majors draw heavily on Chemistry, Biology, and Physics and are known for their extensive lab work and research demands.

Beyond STEM, other demanding fields include:

Architecture: This combines artistic skills with a strong grasp of mathematical and scientific knowledge to construct buildings and structures. The workload is often high, with numerous projects and design tasks.

Music Performance: Might seem like a surprising addition, but it's notably time-consuming and rigorous. Between individual practice, ensemble rehearsals, and performances, this can be quite demanding.

This list isn't absolute and of course some students might find Physics easy and Music Performance challenging, depending on their innate skills, passions, and commitment. It's also crucial to remember that a 'difficult' major doesn't necessarily lead to a 'better' career - it's far more important to find a field of study that ignites your passion and aligns with your career goals.
