Views on the hardest courses at university?

Regardless of the university we're talking about, I've noticed that there are always certain dreaded courses. So I'm curious to know, in your experience, which courses are typically the most challenging at university? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

This is quite an interesting question! Indeed, the level of difficulty can be subjective and depends largely on a student's individual strengths and weaknesses. However, some classes are frequently cited as being particularly challenging for many students, regardless of the institution or the major.

First off, Organic Chemistry tends to be a course many students find challenging. It's often a requirement for pre-medical and biology students, and it dives deep into chemical structures and reactions, requiring a lot of memorization and understanding of intricate processes.

Another one is Physical Chemistry. This course includes elements of both quantum physics and thermodynamics, and it requires a solid understanding of a range of mathematical concepts, essentially putting chemistry and physics concepts into a mathematical context.

Calculus is another course that a lot of students find difficult. There are usually multiple levels to it: Calculus I, II, and III. Each level introduces more complex concepts and often requires a strong foundation in pre-calculus mathematics to understand.

Courses in theoretical physics can be incredibly challenging as well. They tend to involve complex mathematical equations and abstract concepts about the nature of the universe, making them hard to grasp.

Many students find Computer Science courses challenging, especially when it comes to software design and algorithms, as these require solid logical thinking and often good mathematics skills.

Lastly, any course in a foreign language – especially at advanced levels – can be difficult due to the amount of memorization and understanding of complex grammatical structures that are required.

Remember, though, that what makes a course difficult can vary greatly from one student to the next. Difficulty can often be eased with the right study strategies, seeking help when needed, and dedicating enough time and effort to understanding the material.
