Good California schools for studying Architecture?

I'm a junior interested in Architecture, and I really want to stay in California for college. Any recommendations on which colleges here have the best architecture programs?

Absolutely, California houses some stellar institutions that offer reputable architecture programs and I'm glad to see you keen on pursuing your passion.

Firstly, the University of Southern California (USC) stands out with its prestigious School of Architecture. The program is five years long, leading to a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree. USC's program is known for its well-rounded approach that includes extensive studio work, along with classes on history, theory, technology, and practice.

California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo is another great option. Cal Poly is known for its "learn by doing" philosophy. The B.Arch program is accredited and lasts five years, including a year of foundation courses in art and design. One unique aspect of Cal Poly's program is the chance for students to participate in the Design Village competition, where they create structures to live in for a weekend.

The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) offers an undergraduate major in Architecture. While it's not a B.Arch degree (and so it's not accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board), the track is designed to prepare students for graduate study in architecture. The curriculum there allows for lots of creativity and exploration.

Another notable institution is the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), located in Los Angeles. It offers a five-year B.Arch program. SCI-Arc is known for fostering innovation, and it regularly hosts public events featuring renowned architects and theorists.

Keep in mind, every program has its own unique strengths and focuses, so it's important to find the one that aligns with your goals and learning style in the field of architecture. A successful architecture portfolio, often requested as part of the application, will highlight your technical and creative skill set. Good luck with your college search!
