Looking for colleges near Washington DC

Hey there, I'm really interested in being in or near a big city for college. I've got some family in Washington DC and I'm wondering if anyone might suggest some good colleges in or close to the city? Bonus points if they're known for a strong science program. Thanks!

Sure, you're in luck—Washington DC and its surrounding areas are home to several colleges with strong academic programs, including in the sciences. Here's a list of colleges that you might want to consider:

1. Georgetown University: Located right in the heart of DC, Georgetown is well-known for its programs in international relations and health sciences. Their biology program is also strong, and they provide ample research opportunities for undergraduates.

2. George Washington University: GWU is also located in DC with good programs in health sciences and engineering, and it has a strong emphasis on applied sciences.

3. American University: Although best known for its international relations and political science programs, the university does offer major in environmental science, neuroscience, biology, chemistry, etc.

4. University of Maryland, College Park: The largest public research university in the DC metro area, UMCP is renowned for their science programs, especially computer science and engineering. This college is located about half an hour away from the city.

5. Johns Hopkins University: While it is located in Baltimore, it's only about an hour away from DC. JHU is a world leader in medical research and has remarkable programs in biological sciences and bioengineering.

Remember, each of these universities has distinct atmosphere, opportunities and teaching philosophies, so I'd recommend that you explore their respective websites or even visit them in person to see which one aligns with your academic and personal preferences. Good luck with your search!
