Considering Schools in West Virginia

Hey all, I'm just starting to look at colleges and wanted to know if there are any worth checking out in West Virginia. Do they have good programs orunique coursework? Interested in Engineering if that helps. Thanks!

Absolutely, West Virginia does have some universities with notable engineering programs!

A great place to start would be West Virginia University (WVU) located in Morgantown, which boasts a strong College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. WVU offers a variety of engineering specializations, including Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mining, Civil, and Chemical Engineering, among others. The University's engineering programs are noted for their research opportunities and state-of-the-art laboratory equipment giving students hands-on experience in their chosen fields.

Another school to consider would be Marshall University located in Huntington. Their College of Engineering offers disciplines such as Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. The engineering program at Marshall is more intimate than WVU, which may appeal to you if you prefer smaller class sizes.

Also noteworthy is the West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), located in Beckley, which dedicates a significant portion of its curriculum to engineering disciplines. Class sizes here tend to be smaller, and the intimate network has helped some students get jobs post-graduation.

As you evaluate these programs, keep in mind the factors that matter most to you, such as class size, research opportunities, faculty expertise, career support, internships and co-op programs, and campus amenities. Don't forget to explore the campuses virtually or even make a visit if you can to get a sense of the community and campus life! Good luck in your college search!
