So, I've heard lots of great things about Howard University and its legacy. As a high schooler keen on HBCUs, I’d love to know more about the day-to-day student experience and the campus culture. Anybody got the inside scoop?
My daughter is a sophomore at Howard, and she's had a positive experience with the vibrant campus life. She's mentioned that Howard has a real sense of community and that there's a strong emphasis on leadership and service within the Black community. She's involved in a few clubs related to her major and has found them to be a great space not only for learning but also for bonding with peers. Campus events are a big deal, especially Homecoming, which she says is an unforgettable week full of concerts, alumni gatherings, and showcases of Black culture. Academically, she's found a supportive environment, but she advises to be ready for rigorous coursework. The professors challenge the students, but they're also passionate about their teaching and very open to mentoring. Lastly, networking opportunities are abundant, with tons of events, professional fairs, and lectures from distinguished guests. One example she loved was a lecture series where alumni shared their stories and career paths. If you're keen on HBCUs and you're proactive in seeking out these resources, she believes you can have a truly enriching experience at Howard!
