What is the campus life like at Portland State University?

I'm considering Portland State University as one of my choices. Can anyone tell me what the campus life is like there? Things like student activities, dorm life, food options– that sorta stuff?

Portland State University (PSU) has a particularly vibrant campus life. The university's location in downtown Portland, right in the heart of the city, means that students have easy access to a wide range of experiences and activities.

In terms of student activities, PSU houses over 200 student clubs and organizations, covering everything from student government and cultural clubs, to academic and community service clubs. These organizations often host events on campus, giving students numerous opportunities to engage with peers and the broader community.

Life in the residence halls – or dorms – at PSU is also quite dynamic. There are a variety of living-learning communities designed around shared interests or fields of study, fostering a close-knit group of individuals collaborating both inside and outside the classroom. The housing options vary from traditional dorm rooms to apartment-style suites, allowing a good deal of choice for students.

For food, PSU boasts a variety of options both on and off campus. In addition to its own dining halls that offer diverse menu options, the university's campus is surrounded by the many eateries of downtown Portland – so you'd have no shortage of unique places to grab a bite. Plus, each Saturday there is the famous PSU Farmers Market, which brings local farmers and vendors directly to the campus, allowing students to purchase fresh produce, artisan foods, and more.

Finally, keep in mind that PSU is a commuter-heavy campus with many non-traditional students. This provides a unique character to the community, contributing to a diverse and inclusive environment. Also, with the city just outside the campus, the border between campus and city life is seamlessly woven together, making the urban atmosphere a big part of the campus culture.
