LDS Colleges in Virginia?

Hey, I'm an LDS high school student and I'm trying to find out if there are any LDS colleges in Virginia. If anyone knows about these institutions, could you please share some details about them, such as their reputations, student life, and majors offered?

Southern Virginia University (SVU) is the only East Coast college for Latter-day Saints. Southern Virginia University is a private, faith-based institution of higher education aligned with the restored gospel of Jesus Christ as taught by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains at the southern end of the Shenandoah Valley, Southern Virginia University’s beautiful campus is home to a welcoming, close-knit community in Buena Vista, Virginia. SVU has over 15 undergraduate majors from Biochemistry to Theatre.

There are also several colleges and universities in Virginia that have Latter-Day Saints student groups or institutes of religion on or near campus, such as Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia.

Another two colleges officially affiliated with the LDS Church on the West Coast are Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, and BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho. These colleges are well-known for their commitment to LDS principles, rigorous academic standards, and variety of programs offered.

For example, Brigham Young University offers about 180 undergraduate majors, from Accounting to Zoology, and is known for its high academic standards. The university prides itself on integrating spiritual and secular education. Its student life activities integrate faith, involvement in the community, and diversity.

What you could do if you're prioritizing staying in Virginia and do not feel that Southern Virginia University is a good fit, is to attend a college or university with a strong LDS student community. LDS Student Association (LDSSA) chapters are present at many non-LDS schools, which can provide a supportive religious community. This way, you can receive both your education and spiritual guidance in a way that aligns with your faith.

Be sure to research the different schools, their LDSSA presence, and the majors offered thoroughly before making your decision. Don't forget to seek guidance from your family, church community, or school counselor. Good luck with your college search!
