Who Drives Tanks in the Military?

The image of a tank is something that's always been synonymous with the military in my mind. I'm curious, which branch of the military is known for driving and operating tanks? Is there a specific job related to that?

In the United States military, the operation and coordination of tanks is primarily the responsibility of the Army. More specifically, this job falls under the MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) 19K, which stands for M1 Armor Crewman. As a M1 Armor Crewman, soldiers are in direct control of the tank and are responsible for the operation, loading, and maintenance of the tank.

The Marines also use tanks, and the role is somewhat similar to the Army's 19K position. However, in the Marines, they're called Armor Assault Marines.

It should be noted that while these roles involve operating tanks, they also require a broad understanding of maintenance, navigation, and tactics. So if you're interested in driving tanks, you'll also get to learn a wealth of other skills.

Another thing to keep in mind is the physical demands of these positions. Operating a tank can be quite challenging and requires good physical fitness. The conditions inside a tank are often compact and can be intense, especially during combat situations.

Both of these roles could offer a fulfilling career path if you're interested in the strategic and technical aspects of tank operation.
