Richmond, Virginia is home to several notable universities, each with its unique strength and area of focus.

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is one of the largest institutions in the area and is recognized for its programs in the arts, social sciences, and health. Known for its urban campus, VCU takes advantage of its location in downtown Richmond, creating an atmosphere full of energy and diversity. It has a vibrant arts scene, especially given its top-notch School of the Arts. Moreover, there's a wide range of student clubs and organizations, providing ample extracurricular opportunities.

University of Richmond, on the other hand, offers a more traditional campus experience with its collegiate gothic architecture and a smaller student population. It's notable for its leadership studies program and a strong emphasis on undergraduate research. Being a smaller institution, it offers an intimate learning environment with smaller class sizes that allow for more personalized attention. The academic rigor at the University of Richmond is quite robust, with high expectations set for students across the different disciplines.

There's also Virginia Union University, a historically Black university that has a strong commitment to nurturing a diverse educational and cultural atmosphere. Known for its programs in business, education, and liberal arts, it offers both the traditional college experience and strong ties to African American history.

As for student support services, generally, all three provide resources including academic advising, career counseling, health services, and tutoring. Please note that the range and quality of student support services may vary from school to school, so it would be best to reach out directly to the institutions' respective offices for the most accurate information.

Keep in mind that every institution will have its own culture, academic rigor, amenities, etc. It is highly recommended to visit each of these campuses if you can, or take a virtual tour if travelling isn't possible. Talk to current students or alumni and get their input. It's all about finding the right fit for you.
