Possible to become a Navy Seal from different military branches?

Hello everyone, I've always been fascinated by the Navy Seals and their high-intensity training. I'm planning to join the military after high school but not sure if I should go for the Navy straight away or explore other branches. Is it possible to become a Navy Seal from other military branches or does that solely belong to the Navy? Any insights are much appreciated!

Directly addressing your question: while Navy SEALs do fall under the United States Navy, it's not entirely impossible for individuals from other military branches to become SEALs. However, it's a more indirect and longer process.

Those interested in becoming SEALs but who are currently in a different branch of the military would have to transfer over to the Navy. This process involves getting permission to separate from their current branch, then enlisting with the Navy. Following this, they need to pass the SEAL Physical Screening Test (PST), and if successful, would then be allowed to undergo the rigorous two-year SEAL training program.

It's also important to know that becoming a SEAL is one of the most mentally and physically demanding roles within the military. It's recommended for those truly committed to this goal to consider starting directly in the Navy to streamline this process. If the Navy specifically appeals because of the SEALs, talking to a Naval recruiter about this aim might be a good first step. They can provide relevant information and guide you on the best course of action.

In conclusion, it's possible, but it's a process that involves transfers and can take significantly more time. In general, starting directly in the Navy is the most straightforward path towards becoming a Navy SEAL.
