Choosing a Military Career: Best Branch to Join?

I'm in the middle of my junior year and I have a lot on my plate regarding decisions for my future. Can anyone give me advice on the pros and cons of various military branches? Like if I wanted to work with animals or in cybersecurity, which branch should I explore? Any guidance would be so appreciated!

You have a few options to explore if you're interested in joining the military and want to work with animals or in cybersecurity.

To work with animals, you might consider the Army Veterinary Corps, which is a part of the U.S. Army. The Veterinary Corps not only provide animal care to service dogs and mascots but also oversee food safety and defense for the Army.

In terms of cybersecurity, each branch has its own cybersecurity department, so you're not limited in your choice of branch. Some points to note:

1. The Air Force has the Air Force Cyber Command. This branch has a strong emphasis on technology and cybersecurity, thanks to its focus on air and space.

2. The Army has the Army Cyber Command. The Army offers more boots-on-the-ground, tactical cybersecurity opportunities.

3. The Navy, via the Information Dominance Corps, provides cybersecurity for naval ships and infrastructure.

4. The Marine Corps Cyberspace Command, despite being a smaller branch, also offers cybersecurity roles, with a focus on supporting ground troops through cyber operations.

5. The Coast Guard has a cyberspace component, mainly focusing on protecting the United States' maritime interests.

6. Space Force, as the newest branch, has a significant focus on technology and will undoubtedly need cybersecurity experts to protect American interests in space.

As you research, consider the size of the force, mission, lifestyle, and its area of operations. The most crucial decision comes down to where you see yourself fitting in and what you think would best suit your personal goals and aspirations. Also, remember to consider factors outside of your immediate job, such as benefits, opportunities for education, bases of operations, etc. Good luck with your decision-making process!
