Tough evaluators: Which are the hardest grading colleges?

I'm a junior who's trying to land on the perfect college choice. I've heard that some colleges across the US are famous for their hard grading system. Anyone got a clue about those? It'd mean a lot because I really want this academic journey to be challenging, yet realistic.

Hi there,

Certainly, some institutions are known for rigorous grading policies. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is an institution with a challenging curriculum, where a lot of dedication and hard work is expected from students, subsequently impacting grading.

Another to consider is Princeton; their reputation for grade deflation is so well known that they attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to impose a limit where only 35% of grades given could be A's.

The University of Chicago, Caltech and Harvey Mudd College are also popularly recognized for rigorous coursework and respective grading to match the high-level academic intensity.

However, remember that a challenging curriculum does not necessarily equate to better education; it may just mean that it’s harder to get top grades. While you certainly seem to rise to the challenge (which is great), also make sure the schools align with your interests, career goals, and provide the necessary support. The balance of challenge and realistic expectations that you're aiming for is definitely possible! It's all about finding the right balance for you. Good luck in your search!
