Specific Roles in Different Military Branches in the USA

I've been reading up on the military branches in the USA and was curious about the roles within these branches. Can someone tell me what a 'ranger' does, and which branch they belong to?

Sure, let's dive in. The term 'Ranger' is associated primarily with the United States Army. Rangers are part of an elite light infantry special operations force. They're known for their skills in airborne, air assault, and direct action operations as well as reconnaissance and combat patrols.

Training to become an Army Ranger is intense and rigorous. Aspiring Rangers start with nine weeks of Basic Combat Training followed by Advanced Individual Training. Then comes the challenging Airborne School where soldiers learn parachuting skills. If successful, soldiers then go through the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP). The first phase of RASP focuses on physical fitness and navigation skills while the second focuses on combat and operational skills. Soldiers who succeed at RASP will then become part of the 75th Ranger Regiment.

To put it simply, Army Rangers are trained to be versatile, powerful and swift. They often take part in missions like airfield seizure, personnel or special equipment recovery, and direct action raids against high profile targets.

Please note though, while the term 'Ranger' is often associated with the Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, it can also refer to graduates of the Army's Ranger School, which is open to members of other military branches. Ranger School is a leadership course where students learn small-unit infantry combat tactics. Graduates of Ranger School can wear the prestigious Ranger Tab, but unless they serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment, they would not be considered "Rangers" in the complete sense.
