SAT Scores for Canadian Colleges: Necessity?

Hey guys, looking to apply across the border here. Do Canadian colleges generally require SAT scores from US applicants, or is it a different process? Also, would my AP scores make a difference if the SAT isn't emphasized?

Hello! It's great to hear you're considering Canadian colleges. Generally, Canadian universities do not require SAT scores for admission, especially if you are coming from the US with a strong high school transcript. They tend to place more emphasis on your GPA and the rigor of your high school curriculum. However, if you have taken the SAT and scored well, it can be beneficial to submit your scores as they can help underscore your readiness for college-level work.

As for AP scores, while they may not significantly impact the admissions decision, good scores on AP exams can often grant you college credit at Canadian universities, saving you time and money, and allowing you to start taking more focused, higher level classes earlier on. So, even if you don't submit your AP scores as part of your application, think about talking to your college academic advisor about whether they can accelerate you along your major track once you actually arrive on campus.

Awarding of AP credit does vary by institution, though, so if it's important for you to receive credit, make sure you look at the policies of the schools you're interested in before applying. If you're confused about anything, you can reach out to their admissions team directly, or to the heads of the departments you're hoping to apply the credit in.

Best of luck with your applications!
