Which branch of the military uses explosives the most?

Hello everyone, I've been researching a bit about the various functions and roles in the military. I'm particularly interested in roles dealing with explosives. Does any specific branch of the military deal more with explosives than others?

Every branch of the U.S military has roles that deal with explosives in one way or another. However, two branches that prominently feature roles with a heavy focus on explosives are the Army and the Navy.

The U.S. Army has a significant number of positions related to explosives, such as the Combat Engineer (12B) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Specialist (89D). Combat Engineers primarily supervise, serve, or assist as a member of a team and perform activities such as construction or destruction of structures, placing or detonating explosives, clearing and placing obstacles, and more. EOD Specialists, on the other hand, are primarily responsible for the safe handling, neutralization, and disposal of unexploded ordnance, such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and captured enemy ammunition.

The U.S. Navy also places a high emphasis on roles dealing with explosives. Most notably, Navy EOD Technicians perform some of the most harrowing, high-stakes work in the military. These servicemembers are trained to defuse a wide range of underwater and land-based explosives, from old-school sea mines to modern IEDs. They serve alongside Navy SEALs and are considered part of the Special Operations Community.

While both Army and Navy EOD units deal with explosives, the environments they typically operate in often differ, with Navy EOD personnel often working in maritime or underwater settings, and Army EOD personnel more commonly encountering land-based ordnance.

Do note that the application and selection process for EOD roles is rigorous. It requires a high degree of physical fitness, mental fortitude, and technical aptitude. The training programs for these roles are also highly selective and challenging. I hope this gives you some direction in your research. Best of luck!
