Hey guys, I've been considering joining the military after high school as a different path from college. I'm not the most athletic person, so I'm curious to know if any of you have insights on which military branch might be the least physically taxing?
While it's difficult to definitively rank the physical demands of the different military service branches, it's generally agreed that the U.S. Air Force tends to have more roles that are heavily focused on technology and aviation, which may not require the same level of strenuous physical activity as some roles in other branches.
Additionally, the Air Force's Basic Military Training (BMT) is also sometimes considered to be one of the less physically strenuous as compared to training for the Army, Marines, or Navy. Keep in mind, however, that less physically demanding doesn't mean easy. BMT for the Air Force still requires a significant level of physical fitness, including regular running, push-ups, sit-ups, and other calisthenics.
As with any branch of the military, the physical demands can also highly depend on the specific role or job you are in. It also would be a good idea to improve your physical endurance and strength to prepare. Even 'non-physical' military roles can come with unexpected physical demands due to the nature of military service.
In the end, if you're considering military service, you'll want to think beyond just physical demands. Consider the future career opportunities, training, and lifestyle each branch might provide. Each branch of the U.S. military offers a range of roles and opportunities, and you might find that one aligns more closely with your own personal interests and long-term goals.
