Opinions on George Washington University, anyone?

I'm a rising junior and currently trying to finalize the list of colleges I'll be applying to. George Washington University is on that list but I'm still unsure. If there are any current students or alumni here, could you share your experiences? Looking for feedback about academics, social scene, campus atmosphere and anything else you think is worth knowing.

Sure, George Washington University (GWU) is a great university with distinctive features that make it stand out. Its location places it right in the heart of Washington D.C., which opens up a world of opportunities for internships and networking, especially for students interested in fields like political science, journalism, or international affairs. This also means you'll have easy access to cultural and historical landmarks like the National Mall, the Smithsonian Museums, or the Kennedy Center.

In terms of academics, GWU is known for having rigorous programs. Class sizes are generally small and professors are known for being helpful and engaging. There's a vibrant research culture and undergraduate students often get opportunities to be involved in meaningful research projects.

The social scene at GWU is diverse and vibrant. There are over 450 active student organizations, covering a wide range of interests from service to culture to hobbies. A majority of the student population is involved in some sort of extracurricular activity. However, keep in mind that GWU doesn't have a typical college campus feel due to its urban setting. Greek life is present but not dominating.

One potential downside to consider, though, is that GWU is known to be quite expensive and its financial aid may not be as generous as some other universities. Make sure to use the net price calculator on their website to get an estimate of your expenses.

Overall, GWU is best suited for students who thrive in urban environments, enjoy engaging in political, cultural, or community service activities, and desire a blend of rigorous academics with real-world opportunities.
