Are there colleges that don't require the SAT anymore?

So I’ve heard about a lot of schools going test-optional, but are there any colleges these days that have completely dropped the SAT requirement? And if so, do those colleges look more at your GPA or extracurriculars instead?

Yes, there is a growing number of colleges that don't require the SAT as part of your application. This movement has been building momentum, especially after the 2020 pandemic when many students found it challenging to sit for standardized tests. Colleges that have chosen to remain test-optional or even go test-blind (meaning your scores won't be considered at all, even if you do submit them) even after the pandemic ended recognize that standardized test scores are not always the best indicator of a student’s potential. GPA, course rigor, extracurricular involvement, and personal essays often provide more insight into a student's abilities and character.

Like you suspected, if a school doesn't require or actually refuses SAT scores, it typically places greater emphasis on other aspects, like your GPA, which reflects your long-term academic performance, and your extracurricular activities, which indicate your interests and skills. Every school wants to get a sense of who you are as a person; test-blind schools have simply decided that they can do that best without an SAT score. So, at these schools, you want to make sure your personality shines in the other elements of your application, including your GPA and extracurriculars, but also course rigor and essays.

Good luck with your applications!
