Submarines and the military - Which branch do they belong to?

Hi, I've been giving potential careers in the military some thought lately. The underwater world of submarines particularly interests me. Does anyone know which branch of the military typically uses submarines?

Submarines are primarily used by the United States Navy. The Navy's submarine force is a key part of the country's ability to project power and maintain security on the world's oceans. These vessels can engage in a variety of missions including reconnaissance, surveillance, and combat operations.

Notably, there are different classes of submarines within the Navy, including attack submarines, missile submarines, and cruise missile submarines. Each class has its distinct purpose and capabilities. If you're interested in this career path, I'd recommend looking into the Navy's requirements for submariners, as well as the training process. Navy Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate (NUPOC) program could be a starting point if you're aiming to become a submarine officer.

Keep in mind that serving on a submarine can be uniquely challenging due to the extended periods at sea, often in confined spaces and under challenging conditions, so it's important to understand the full range of responsibilities and demands before committing to this path.
