Help! Choosing a Major at Austin Peay

Hey guys, I've got my heart set on Austin Peay, but I'm nervous about picking the right major. Could someone give me an idea of what the best programs are? What about student support for exploration before deciding on a major? Any advice would be truly appreciated!

Choosing a major can definitely be daunting, so it's good that you're thinking about this already! Austin Peay State University (APSU) has a good range of programs you might consider. Business, Health Professions, and Education are among the most popular majors chosen at APSU.

Business degrees, in particular, are uniquely structured to provide a foundation in business theories and concepts. The College of Business has AACSB accreditation, which sets it apart and suggests a very solid business program. Health Professions, specifically Nursing, is another area where APSU shines. The pass rate for nursing licensure exams is generally quite high.

But remember, the "best" program is subjective and depends wholly on your interests and long-term career goals. It's important for you to pick a major that aligns with your own interests and strengths, rather than simply picking a major that is considered "the best" program.

If you're unsure of which major to pursue, APSU has resources to support the exploration involved in selecting the right major. APSU has an Exploratory Track that allows you to take different courses and explore multiple fields of study before deciding on a major. This can be particularly beneficial in helping you find out what you're most passionate about studying.

There's also the Office of Career Services that provides a multitude of resources, such as career counseling, which could be helpful in determining what major might be right for you based on your career aspirations.

To give you an example, if you're interested in writing, you might consider an English or Communications major. If you strongly gravitate towards numbers or STEM fields, you might consider majoring in Mathematics or Engineering Technology.

Don't stress too much about choosing the perfect major off the bat. College is a time of exploration and learning, so it's okay to take some time to figure out what you're truly passionate about. Best of luck with your college journey!
