Experience at Stanislaus University in Turlock, CA?

I'm from out of state but considering Stanislaus University in Turlock, California. Can someone who's been there or knows about it drop some knowledge about student life, academics, anything really?

Stanislaus State, or Stan State, is a part of the California State University system and is known for its close-knit campus atmosphere and committed faculty. Its smaller size (roughly 10,000 students) allows for smaller class sizes and more personalized attention from professors.

On the academic front, Stan State offers a wide array of majors ranging from Business Administration to Psychology to Kinesiology. It's true that the school doesn't carry the same prestigious reputation compared to some other California schools, but it still provides a solid education, specifically known for its Nursing and Business programs.

As for student life, it varies. Because it is a smaller university and a commuter school, the campus life is not as vibrant as some larger universities. That being said, there are plenty of organizations and clubs you can join to stay engaged and meet new people. There are over 100 student-run clubs and organizations, including Greek life, so there are ample opportunities to find your community and get involved.

Regarding the location, Turlock is a smaller city with a lower cost of living relative to major cities in California, which can certainly help with finances. The city itself offers various local amenities but if you're looking for a big city feel, you might be slightly disappointed. However, larger cities like Sacramento and San Francisco are each about a couple of hours drive away for weekend trips.

Finally, because Stanislaus State is part of the Cal State system, it is test-blind for the 2024-2025 application cycle, meaning it will not consider SAT or ACT scores at all in its admissions process.

Overall, Stan State might be a good match for you if you're looking for a smaller, more personal learning environment and appreciate a tight-knit campus community.
