Opinions on Occidental College?

Hey there! I was wondering if any of you had firsthand experience or knowledge about Occidental College. What's the quality of education like, and how's the social scene?

Occidental College is a liberal arts college located in Los Angeles known for its small classes, personalized learning, and a school-wide emphasis on research, discussion, and writing. The student-faculty ratio is approximately 9:1, which means you can expect more personalized support from professors than you would get at a larger university. Additionally, the wide variety of courses offered at Occidental allows flexibility in your study plan, meaning you can explore different disciplines before deciding on your major.

In terms of the social scene, Occidental is usually described as vibrant and inclusive. With its location in Los Angeles, students have access to countless cultural, entertainment, and outdoor activities. There's also a strong sense of community on campus, given the smaller size of the school. You'll find active student organizations, intramural sports, and frequent college-wide events that promote a sense of unity.

Being a part of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the college offers plenty of opportunities for athletics and team involvement. For those not into athletics, there are more than 100 clubs to choose from, catering to a wide range of interests.

Finally, Occidental's Career Services office does a solid job of equipping students for post-graduate success. They provide one-on-one career advising, internships, job search resources, and networking opportunities.

A note to keep in mind is that because it's a smaller school, your experience might depend on your personal preferences. If you want a huge sports culture, Greek life, or a large student body, Occidental might not be the best fit for you. But if you're interested in small class sizes, personalized education, and an inclusive social scene, it certainly could be a great option.
