What are some women's colleges like Barnard for a liberal arts education?

Hi, I’m kind of enamored with Barnard College because of its focus on women’s education and liberal arts. As a junior starting to build my college list, can someone suggest more colleges that offer a similar environment and focus on empowering women through a strong liberal arts curriculum?

It's fantastic that you're considering women's colleges! They certainly offer unique environments that foster leadership and empowerment.

Apart from Barnard, you might want to explore Wellesley College in Massachusetts, which boasts alumnae like Hillary Clinton and Madeleine Albright.

Another excellent choice is Smith College, also in Massachusetts; it's part of the Five College Consortium, providing vast resources and course options.

Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania is another prestigious option, known for its rigorous academics and Honor Code.

In the South, consider Spelman College in Atlanta, a leading institution for Black women.

Finally, Mount Holyoke College, the first of the Seven Sisters colleges, offers a diverse and inclusive community in Massachusetts. You also have access to the other institutions in the Five College Consortium: Amherst, UMass Amherst, Smith, Hampshire.

Each college has its unique culture and strengths, so research each one to see where you feel you'd fit best. Many students also appreciate that women's colleges often have partnership programs with co-ed institutions, like Barnard with Columbia University, which allow students to benefit from the resources of a larger university while still maintaining the close-knit community of a women's college. Best of luck with your search!
