Deciding Between Colleges: Minneapolis vs. Hawaii

Hey everyone, I'm a rising junior and starting to look at colleges. I'm interested in both a college in Minneapolis and one in Hawaii. Just slightly freaking out here, but how do I decide between two such vastly different places in terms of weather, culture, etc? Any advice would be much appreciated!

It's normal to feel overwhelmed when choosing between college options, especially when they're as diverse as Minneapolis and Hawaii.

It's helpful to organize what matters to you most about a college and then comparing the two schools on these points. For example, you mentioned the weather and culture. These are great points to consider - are you someone who thrives in the warmth and sunshine or do you prefer the cooler and sometimes cold temperatures? Does the appeal of beaches and lush landscapes bring joy to you, or are you more attracted to bustling urban environments? Consider your lifestyle preferences and how it reflects on your choice of college.

Additionally, consider the academic programs offered at each school. If there's a particular field of study you're interested in, look into which schools specialize in that area or have strong programs.

You might also want to consider the opportunities available after graduation. Different regions may have distinct employment prospects, depending on the industry (for example, Honolulu could provide opportunities in tourism or environmental science, while Minneapolis could have a stronger presence of Fortune 500 companies.)

Lastly, think about the costs associated with each location - tuition, housing, cost of living, transportation, etc. You can use each school's net price calculator to get a rough estimate of these costs.

Plan a visit to each college, if possible. Being on campus, sitting in on a class or two, talking to students and faculty can give you a much better feel for whether the school might be a good fit for you.

Deciding between colleges can indeed be challenging, but remember, both locations have unique aspects that make them appealing. In the end, the choice should reflect where you think you can grow, both academically and personally, for the next four years.
